Help Us Debug The Demo!
I figured out my sound issue. I figured I'd post the solution in case anyone else runs into the same thing I did = no sound/music.
I had to use F1 to call up a menu and enable music and sound. Not sure how they were toggled off, but it makes a big difference in my overall appreciation of the game.
I haven't gotten to play too much more of it yet, but aside from the minor issues that have already been brought up, I am enjoying the game very much... even though I was really getting sick of wererats every two paces, but hey that's old school random encounters for ya!

What do I do if I have both problems? :((((
That is what happens to me with writing for games. I have to luck into the perfect mix where I know enough guideposts along the way to keep me from writing way beyond my resources, but enough of the major points are still undecided that it actually remains interesting for me to figure them out as I go.
I've tried outlining for fiction before, and it really kills it for me.
The closest I can get, and still remain moderately interested in the project, is using note cards. I'll jot down brief descriptions of scenes/characters/conversations as they come to me, in whatever haphazard order that turns out to be. Then, once I have a stack of them, I shuffle them around until they seem to make the most sense and work from that.
It keeps it fluid enough to be fun. Read one card "Well, this doesn't make any sense unless this happened first... oh wait, <shuffles> now it did! Perfect"
Life is a cut-up.

I entered in either 08 or 09, but then suffered a brutal attack of writer's block and wrote nothing for like eighteen days... after which I finished all 50,000+ words in a total of about six days in the middle of the month.
I was going to try last year, but my November was just way too busy. Unfortunately/Fortunately, it seems I'm going to have plenty of time to get into it this year.
I don't really believe in pre-planning, so I have absolutely nothing prepared aside from maybe a brief vignette that came from a dream the other day that I may or may not use as a jumping off point.
The only way writing is really interesting to me anymore is when I don't know what is going to happen next.

There's a little mistake in the packaging. It includes the file RGSS103J.dll, but uses instead the RGSS102E.dll.
What I did was just edit the config file to direct it to look for the dll that it came with. It seemed to get the game running, but then again, I am the guy experiencing it with no sound, lag, and the infamous post Storm & Jessen crash, so this might not actually be a good idea. I'll try playing it with the right dll when I get a chance!

I may be the only one having this issue, but I still had no sound or music when I tried the most recent build last night. It might just be my computer though. I'm also still getting the crash after the scene with Storm and Jessen.
26/10/11 - Progress + Testers
I'd be interested in helping you test it out. Its been a while since I've seen this one in action up close.

Guess that game!
Probably right, I thought that too, especially with the warp zones since you could loop back to levels (if memory serves), but I went another way with it. Oh well.
Guess that game!
Chrono Trigger makes sense for the loop/helping a princess because of the time travel stuff and attending paradoxes, but I'm not sure I'd categorize Crono as spoony, hm.
